Workshop and training
The program aimed to enhance the mental and psychological motivation of the players to secure the qualification of the Saudi youth national team for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea, which was achieved. The program extended throughout the national team's training camps during the years 2015-2016 until April 2017 in South Korea.
A specialized program was designed for the team, with the following primary objectives:
1- To create a supportive team environment that fosters a sense of belonging and encourages commitment to training practices and professional standards.
2- To build psychological resilience, enabling players to recover quickly from mistakes or injuries and maintain a high level of motivation.
3- To utilize performance visualization sessions, helping them recall tactical roles and anticipate game situations with confidence.
4- To train players in effective communication between the players and coaching staff, improving tactical understanding and reducing misunderstandings during matches. 5. Teaching time management and daily routines supports a balance between training, studies or personal life, and the demands of professionalism.
6. Training players to resist media distractions and social media influences protects their focus and professional careers.
7. Instilling values of discipline and teamwork shapes the desired athletic character in national teams.
Regularly assessing an individual's mental state helps detect early stressors and provide preventative interventions. The inclusion of mental health specialists in the Saudi national team's program provides tailored support and practical strategies for each player. This helps maintain focus on short- and long-term goals and keeps players motivated and focused on continuous improvement.
Applying this approach to the Saudi Arabia U-21 national team players has had a significant impact, contributing to a holistic approach to player development: technically, physically, and mentally. This increases their chances of competing locally and continentally and facilitates a confident and stable transition to professional football.
